In our world today, technology has taken over every aspect of human existence to the point that we do not even realise it. Social media has gradually crept into our lives.
Personally, my phone is the first thing I touch when I wake up from bed in the morning and the last thing I check before I go to sleep at night. Imagine going out and leaving your phone at home. To me it's such a big deal. Not everyone may feel that way but i'm sure most of you get me. It's not just the phone calls, it's our jobs, businesses and a lot of other stuff we carry around on our phones, tablets, laptops... It is absolutely evident that technology governs our everyday lives.
Recently, I got a crazy idea after watching an episode on "Glee". I decided to go "Unplugged". No tv, radio, whatsapp, facebook, Twitter, bbm, internet... Or electricity. I locked my phones away in a drawer. At the beginning, it was so hard. I felt like an addict in rehab. For the first time in quite a long time, I actually read a news paper instead of just watching the news on tv. I read a novel, wrote an article. I had forgotten howmuch fun these use to be. It was the most exhilarating feeling I had in quite a long time. It felt like a load had been lifted. Suddenly, I began to appreciate little things that I always took for granted. I know this all sounds so cliche but sometimes, we forget the impact technology has had on our lives.
I had the best night's sleep in quite a long time. Gave myself the opportunity to reflect on quite a lot of stuff and to me it was great.
Will I do it again? Maybe, maybe not. Well, if you find yourself overwhelmed with your day to day activities, voices and all, you should try going "Unplugged". It is like taking a very relaxing vacation and we all need it every now and then. It's just my opinion.
